Question: Is my contribution tax-deductible?
Answer: Yes! The Make-A-Wish Foundation of America is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization. As such, all contributions are deductible for income tax purposes. Locally, our financial statements are audited by Grant Thornton.
Question: How much of my donation is used in granting a wish?
Answer: Locally, 82 percent of every donated dollar goes toward granting a wish. All funds donated locally are used in support of funding wishes of Idaho children.
Question: What are Make-A-Wish Foundation's sources of funding?
Answer: Make-A-Wish Foundation is funded solely through the donationes of individuals, corporations, businesses and grants. We also utilize and greatly appreciate in-kind donations of goods and services.
Question: What would I do as a volunteer?
Answer: Make-A-Wish Foundation of Idaho utilizes the assistance of volunteers in various capacities each and every day. As such, volunteers are always needed! Volunteers work as wish granters, administrative aides, fundraising and special event assistants and participate as community outreach and awareness liasons.
Question: Does Make-A-Wish Foundation of Idaho need my help?
Answer: Of course! Volunteers are the foundation of our organization and the majority of our work is done by these wonderful individuals!
Question: How can I sponsor a wish?
Answer: If interested in sponsoring a wish, you are given the option of selecting an individual child and either sponsoring the wish in its entireity or partially funding with a monetary value you choose.
Question: How many wishes have been granted?
Answer: As of May 2007, there have been 600 wishes granted in the state of Idaho since the chapter's inception in 1986. Make-A-Wish Foundation of Idaho grants approximately 65 wishes annually. Worldwide, more than 148,000 wishes have been granted since 1980.
Question: Is the family included in the wish?
Answer: Make-A-Wish Foundation of Idaho attempts to include all family living in the home in the wish child's experience and every effort is made to include the immediate family whenever possible.
Question: What is the most requested wish?
Answer: Locally, Walt Disney World continues to be the most desired wish and nationwide, Walt Disney World made up almost half of the requests for the fiscal year 2005/2006. Most wish requests fall into four major categories which include: "I wish to go..., I wish to be..., I wish to meet... and I wish to have...".
Question: How much does granting a wish cost?
Answer: The average cost of a wish in Idaho is $6,500. However, wish costs vary and may be more or less expensive than the average. Nationwide, the average cost of granting a wish is $6,900.
Question: Does the family have to pay for the wish?
Answer: No! All wish expenses are fully covered by Make-A-Wish Foundation of Idaho including all travel expenses and spending money. Make-A-Wish Foundation's objective is to provide the child and family with memories of joy not tainted with the worries of monetary expenses.
Question: Are there any restrictions on a wish?
Answer: Usually the wish is limited only by the child's imagination.
Question: Who makes a wish request or referral?
Answer: Requests can be made by a parent, legal guardian, the potential wish child or medical professionals. If the initial call comes from someone other than the above-mentioned indivdiauls, Make-A-Wish Foundation of Idaho requests the wish family be notified to allow them the option of calling directly on their own behalf.
Question: Who is eligible for a wish?
Answer: Any child between the ages 2 1/2 and 18 who has been determined by a physician to have a life-threatening medical condition is eligible. Make-A-Wish Foundation grants wishes to all eligible children regardless of race, religion or socio-economic status. Also, the child cannot have been granted a previous wish
